The Consulate General of Italy in Osaka organised ‘Art and Theatre for the Unforgettable’ to mark the Day of Remembrance: a concert by Mauro Iurato (violin) and Pablo Escande (piano) was held afterwards, with performances by Mendelssohn, Sinigaglia and Williams. A programme of Jewish composers was performed, focusing on the relevance of the Shoah (Holocaust) theme.
In his speech, Tedeschi spoke of the close relationship between play, art and memory, and recalled the exhibition ”Giocare a regola d’arte”, which will be held at the Italian Cultural Institute in Tokyo in July 2023.
The exhibition also featured photographs and videos of archaeological finds and ancient toys from the collection of the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, as well as videos about games from the 1930s from the collection of the Istituto Luce, Italy’s largest and oldest historical film archive, created in 1924.
Marco Prentipe, Consul General of Italy in Osaka, who spoke at the opening, reiterated the importance of keeping the memory of the Holocaust alive and recalled that since 2000, according to Law 211, 27 January has been declared ‘Day of Remembering the Shoah’ in Italy every year.
Mr Plencipe quoted President Mattarella as saying. Auschwitz is the most inhumane construction ever conceived by man.
